A Requiem for the Motorola Razr
The time was 2004, The Facebook was unveiled, the iPod took off and cell phones became more dominate and innovative. The Motorola Razr was one of those cell phones. In 2006 Motorola stated that it had sold over 50 million of the Razr which is still regarded as one the most reliable phones to be made.
For a cell phone in 2004, Motorola was a trendsetter. It not only had a display on the inside but a small display on the outside. Not only did it have two separate displays it had Bluetooth. This was major because you could use headsets to answers calls while driving, which is always better than holding the phone while driving. It even had a camera, although not the best but it still had one.
Despite its massive success of over 100 million sales in its four-year tenure, thanks to the new evolution of the cell phone called the iPhone it was no longer needed. In my opinion, the Razr set the stage for the smartphone. You could take pictures, surf the web slowly and in some cases, listen to music but there was the iPod so not many people used it for that.
Once again Apple changed the market and for the better, I use my smartphone for almost everything, even though I also loved my Motorola Razr, I love my Google Pixel and wouldn’t give it up for a Razr any day. Eventually and hopefully soon the cell phone market will be turned on its head and another breakthrough will occur.
